Ariana Orvell (PI) CV

Ariana Orvell (PhD) is a social psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychology at Bryn Mawr College. In the CARE Lab, she and her students study emotion regulation, self-control, and connection, with a focus on linguistic, social, and cognitive mechanisms that promote these processes. She holds a PhD from the University of Michigan, a BA from Columbia University, and an MA in Teaching from the Relay Graduate School of Education. Before completing her PhD and Postdoctoral training, she taught Kindergarten and First Grade in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. Some of her favorite moments in the classroom were those in which her students were able to independently and proudly use strategies they’d learned to help them regulate their thoughts, feelings, or behaviors to meet their own goals. Now, as a parent of two young children, she sees day in and day out the importance of making self-control and emotion regulation easier for children and grown-ups, alike!
